Spock — Free people and information search engine.

I heard of Spock way back in June 17th from Mickey who gave three Spock invites away to his reader — I got one, of cause — while Spock was in closed beta :-) Now that within five months, Spock has grown significantly and ready for a much wider audience.

So what is Spock all about?

In short, it is a search engine for “people”.

Unlike the others (for the most part), Spock goes way beyond searching just social networks for people information. They are positioning themselves specifically against Google for web search and Amazon for product search, saying the third important type of search is information about people, and that 30% of Internet searches are people-related. Wink is Spock’s closest competitor among all of the ones listed above. — Techcrunch review

Spock is a free people and information search engine. People can be searched by name or by a “tag” consisting of a personal piece of information (e.g. Real Estate Agent, blind, curly hair, etc). These tags can be created by the person, or by other Spock members. Opinions can be voiced about a person by voting for or against a tag (this includes pictures as well). Although we’re not a social network we do have some capabilities such as messaging. Within a search result are links to a person’s other locations on the web (e.g. MySpace, Wikipedia, LinkedIn, blog, etc)
